Our periodontist carried out a 3-year postgraduate master’s degree in the subject, and has treated patients with more complex periodontal needs for since 2015.

Gum disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults. It is the 6th most prevalent chronic disease in humans, and around 15% of us have the most severe form. Periodontal diseases are inflammatory conditions linked to systemic diseases such as cardiovascular, cardiometabolic and autoimmune disorders.

Periodontal disease and implants

With the increasing use of dental implants to replace missing teeth, “Peri-implantitis”, is effectively gum disease around implants and is thought to affect around 22% of all implants placed. The likelihood of implant failure can be influenced by patient-related factors such as smoking, dietary preferences, history of periodontitis, systemic health and bone quality, as well as operator-related factors.

Our dentists will examine your existing implants methodically to help reduce the risk of you developing these types of problems. We are well placed to identify and treat these problems and talk you through the options.
